Senator Faki blames police for drug menace in the coast

Mombasa County Senator Mohamed Faki has blamed the security apparatus in the country for the rampant drug trafficking and abuse in the Coast.

Speaking in the Senate, Senator Faki said it was surprising how drugs are being smuggled into the country while there are police at the borders.

He said security is not devolved so county governments cannot do anything to deal with the drug menace especially if the police are not doing their job as required.

“Mr. speaker Kenya has no industry to manufacture drugs but the drugs get into the country through our borders. These borders have police, immigration officers, DCI but drugs eventually get to our youths and destroy their lives,” said Faki.

Faki also claimed that in some instances drugs are still being sold at rehab centers.

He said even though the national government set up a rehab center in Miritini Mombasa and the county government of Mombasa set up one in Frere town, there is a need for more rehabilitation facilities in the country.
