ODM removes Edwin Sifuna as Secretary-General, names Omanyo acting SG

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Executive Committee (NEC) has removed Edwin Sifuna from his position as the party’s Secretary-General, citing rising indiscipline and leadership concerns within the party’s top ranks.

In resolutions adopted during a meeting held in Mombasa, the NEC said it had expressed “grave concern” over increasing levels of indiscipline in the party, particularly at the senior leadership level, and underscored the need for strict adherence to the rule of law, party constitution and collective decision-making.

The committee resolved to remove Sifuna from office and appointed Deputy Secretary-General Catherine Omanyo to act as Secretary-General until a substantive office holder is elected.

“The NEC resolved to remove him from office with immediate effect in accordance with the Party Constitution and applicable laws,” said the Committee.

During the same meeting, the NEC reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to democratic governance, constitutionalism, social justice and reform-oriented leadership, saying the party remains focused on reflecting the will and aspirations of Kenyans.

The NEC also resolved to convene a National Delegates Convention (NDC) on March 27, 2026, in Nairobi to deliberate on key party agenda items, ratify strategic decisions and prepare the party for the forthcoming General Election.

The resolutions were issued in Mombasa on February 11, 2026.
