A 29-year-old man was on Wednesday handed a life imprisonment sentence at the Garissa Magistrate Court after he was found guilty of defiling a 10-year-old girl.
Anwar Said Balozi committed the heinous act on 10th October 2021 in Ziwani village, Tana River North Sub-county.
According to witnesses, Balozi ambushed the victim while she was collecting firewood before fleeing the scene.
He was arrested on 25th October 2024 after being in hiding for three years.
“The minor testified that Balozi strangled and pinned her to the ground before committing the act. He also inflicted serious injuries that led to her being hospitalized for 7 days,” said the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The prosecution presented six witnesses in the 65-day trial.
Resident Magistrate Robert Lemayan ruled that the prosecution had proved beyond doubt that Balozi was culpable of the offense.
