Coca-Cola, Kenya Airways spread holiday joy with in-flight surprises

Travellers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) received an early dose of Christmas cheer on Tuesday after Coca-Cola, in partnership with Kenya Airways, surprised passengers with festive gift hampers at the terminal and mid-air during the Nairobi–Mombasa flight.

Passengers heading to Mombasa were welcomed with Christmas-themed hampers, brightening the busy airport with colour and excitement. The celebration continued in the sky as those on board the Kenya Airways flight received additional surprise gifts 31,000 feet above sea level.

Monique Katana, Director of Frontline Marketing at Coca-Cola East and Central Africa, said the activation was designed to bring joy to people in unexpected places.

“We wanted to bring the magic of Christmas to a place where people don’t always expect it—the airport,” she said. “Many Kenyans are travelling to reunite with loved ones, making JKIA the perfect place to spark moments of joy. Together with Kenya Airways, we saw an opportunity to welcome passengers with warmth, kindness, and festive cheer from the moment they step into the terminal.”

The activity is part of Coca-Cola’s nationwide Christmas campaign themed “The World Needs More Santas,” which encourages Kenyans to embrace the spirit of giving and kindness throughout the holiday season. The company is also celebrating everyday people who show generosity within their communities.

A key highlight of the campaign is the iconic Coca-Cola Caravan, which has been touring towns in Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, and Nairobi, and is now travelling to other parts of the country. The Caravan distributes various goods, including soda, chapati flour, fish, chickens, and goats, turning ordinary markets, neighbourhoods, and malls into lively festive stops.

Coca-Cola is calling on Kenyans to share their own “Santa moments” on its online platforms through simple gestures, kind acts, or shared smiles, in an effort to spread joy this festive season.
