Faki urges Mombasa leadership to end wrangles and focus on service delivery

Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki has urged the County Government and the County Assembly to resolve their differences and prioritize service delivery to residents.

Speaking in Mombasa, Senator Faki expressed concern over reports of recent disruptions at the County Assembly, calling for mutual respect between the two arms of the county government.

“There must be respect between the Assembly and the Governor’s office. These two institutions must work together because when they clash, it is the people of Mombasa who suffer,” he said.

His sentiments came after a scuffle at the County Assembly on Thursday afternoon when Lands and Planning County Executive Committee Member Mohamed Hussein Amadoh appeared before the Lands Committee to respond to questions and petitions from Tudor Kiziwi residents of Tudor Ward, that was presented to the Assembly.

The confrontation came just days after MCAs clashed in Likoni on Monday, trading accusations of betrayal following the ouster of Majority Leader Athman Mwamiri.

Senator Faki warned that continued political wrangles could stall key county operations, noting that several important matters, including the approval of nominated county executives and scrutiny of a sh.17 billion tender, remain unresolved.

He reminded both sides that the County Assembly, like the National Assembly, is a constitutionally protected institution and should be treated with dignity.

“Respect is a two-way street. The Assembly must respect the Executive, and the Executive must respect the Assembly,” he added, citing Makueni County’s past leadership impasse as a cautionary example.

The senator emphasized that cooperation between the Assembly and the Executive is essential for effective governance and for residents to enjoy improved infrastructure and public services.

“Mombasa residents deserve better roads, better services, and efficient governance, not political standoffs,” he said.
