Egypt is set to establish a Center for Maritime and Logistics in Mombasa as part of its deepening bilateral cooperation with Kenya.
The development was announced by Egyptian Ambassador Wael Nasr Eldin Attiya during a high-level meeting with the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
The ambassador met with KPA’s top management, led by Managing Director Capt. William Ruto, to explore areas of collaboration in port development, logistics, and regional trade.
Ambassador Attiya praised Kenya’s ongoing infrastructure investments, particularly improvements at the Port of Mombasa, which he said have significantly improved efficiency and positioned the facility as a regional logistics hub serving East and Central Africa.

“Our partnership reflects the commitment of both countries to bolster bilateral relations and create a favorable environment for investors,” said Attiya.
He noted that Egypt is keen on supporting development projects such as the expansion of the Port of Mombasa, the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone, Lamu Port, and Kenya’s inland waterways network.
Capt. Ruto welcomed the initiative and urged Egyptian investors to take advantage of Kenya’s enhanced infrastructure and strategic location.
“KPA is ready to support and facilitate partnerships that advance our port systems and logistics sector,” said Capt. Ruto. “We look forward to fruitful cooperation with Egyptian stakeholders.”
The proposed center is expected to play a key role in knowledge sharing, training, and regional trade facilitation, aligning with Kenya’s broader vision of becoming a regional maritime hub.
