Lake Gas assures public of LPG safety amid KEBS testing process

Lake Gas Limited has assured Kenyans of the safety and quality of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), amid recent public concerns triggered by media reports on a new gas consignment undergoing standard testing by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

In a statement from the company’s General Manager, Morris Mutiso clarified that its latest LPG consignment fully complies with all quality and safety standards as required by KEBS. The company emphasized that a letter from KEBS, dated June 11, 2025, confirmed that the submitted gas sample “performed as indicated.”

“This means the gas met all necessary quality and safety requirements. We want to reassure all our customers that there is no compromise on the quality or safety of our LPG,” said Lake Gas General Manager, Morris Mutiso.

The company explained that KEBS has not flagged any issue with the gas itself. Rather, the Bureau had instructed the addition of ethyl mercaptan, a standard odorant infused into LPG to help detect leaks. This, Lake Gas noted, is a routine safety compliance measure and does not affect the gas quality.

Lake Gas stated that the odorant infusion process has now been completed, and KEBS is expected to carry out final inspection and testing before officially clearing the consignment for market release.

Mutiso further noted that Lake Gas sources its LPG from globally reputable suppliers and upholds strict international and local safety standards.

“Safety is our top priority. Our gas will only be released after receiving full approval from KEBS,” he said.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, regulatory compliance, and delivering safe, high, quality, and affordable LPG to consumers across Kenya.

“At Lake Gas, we are not just supplying gas, we are ensuring that every household and business that uses our product can do so with peace of mind,” said Mutiso.
