Residents of Batani Miyuni in Rabai Sub-County, Kilifi County, have expressed relief and gratitude after a well-wisher responded to their long-standing appeal for clean water.
According to the residents, the chronic water shortage that had plagued the area for over seven years has now been significantly addressed.
“The problem has persisted for more than seven years. Our taps have been dry, leading to a severe shortage of clean water,” said one resident.
The new water supply initiative, which the community says will be implemented in phases, has brought hope to the locals who have struggled with access to safe drinking water.
Joyce Kuvuna, a local village elder, criticized local political leaders for neglecting the issue and making unfulfilled promises.
“Our leaders have continuously given us empty promises. They’ve failed us,” Kuvuna said.
She, however, praised Bamburi Cement for stepping in to provide a solution.
“We thank the company for its corporate social responsibility. Please continue supporting us at least two to three times a week,” she added.
Many residents emphasized how vital the free water distribution is, especially for low-income families.
“We are getting water for free now. Some of us couldn’t afford even Ksh30 for a 20-litre jerrycan,” said another local.
Amos Tele, a representative from Mombasa Cement, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the cause.
“We heard about your plight through local media. As a company, we are ready and willing to help in any way we can,” said Tele.
The initiative has brought renewed hope to the community, which is now looking forward to a more consistent and reliable water supply.
