Liverpool won their 20th Premier League title, which equaled Manchester United’s record and ended Manchester City’s four-year winning streak after thrashing Tottenham 5-1 on Sunday.
The Arne Slot’s side was crowned Champions with four games to spare, having lost just two games from the previous 34 matches, now with 82 points, fifteen more than second-placed Arsenal.
A draw for the Reds was enough to clinch the trophy for the second time in five years, but they won it comfortably with five goals.
Luiz Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, and Cody Gakpo’s goals in the first half were stamped by Mo Salah and an own goal from Udogie in the second half, despite Spurs striking first with a brilliant header from Domin Solanke.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has also made a record of becoming the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League title and the fifth coach to win in his first season after Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini, and Antonio Conte.
“When the season started, everyone would have been happy with a top four finish to qualify for the Champions League, but I don’t think that was fair to our players because they are much better than that, and that’s what they have shown this season,” said Arne Slot in post-match interview.
Liverpool will lift the title in their last game at Anfield against Crystal Palace on Sunday, May 25.
Their win ended Man City’s four-year streak, with the team currently holding the fourth position, with only six points behind second-placed Arsenal.
Manchester City became the first men’s team in the history of English football to win four top-flight titles in a row in the 2023/24 campaign.
