English Premier League football club Leicester City has announced the departure of forward Jamie Vardy this summer.
Vardy leaves Leicester City after 13 years at the club.
In his farewell message to the club’s fans, Vardy said that though it was very devastating to him, it was finally time to call it a day.
However, he said the timing is right, thanking the fans for his time at the club.
“I just want to sincerely thank you all for taking me in as one of your own. Leicester will always have a massive place in my heart,” said Vardy.
He promised to follow the club for the years to come, wishing the club more success.
Vardy described his time at Leicester as one with lots of success, some downs, but a majority all highs.
Leicester announced the departure of Vardy with a post on social media, captioning a photo of Vardy and trophies he’s won at the club as “Our greatest ever player, Jamie Vardy, will depart Leicester City this summer.”
The 38-year-old is Leicester’s record scorer with 198 goals in 496 appearances.
Of those goals, 143 have come in the Premier League, putting him 15th on the league’s all-time scoring charts.
Vardy joined Leicester while they were in the Championship in May 2012 from Fleetwood Town.
Leicester won the Championship in Vardy’s second season at the club, and the striker made his Premier League debut in August 2013.
The following year, he scored 24 goals, including a record-breaking stretch of scoring in 11 games in a row, as Leicester produced one of the biggest sporting shocks ever to win their first Premier League title in the 2015-16 season.
