United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar Sarai has criticized the Mombasa County Government, accusing it of failing to implement its development projects and instead taking credit for national government initiatives.
Speaking during a public address, Sarai claimed that recent project launches, including a Technical Institute in Likoni, were national government undertakings rather than county-led initiatives.
“What was launched in Likoni and other areas are all national government projects,” Sarai stated.
Sarai, who previously vied for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the national government if elected in the future.
He also condemned leaders engaging in tribal politics, urging unity and inclusivity.
“You always complain about Murima. We are done with that business—you cannot isolate us from this government,” he remarked.
Defending President William Ruto’s administration, Sarai highlighted its inclusivity, particularly in appointing leaders from the Coast region.
“Ruto’s leadership is people-centered. This government has given the Coast region one of its largest representations ever,” he said.
His remarks come amid ongoing political debates regarding national and county government responsibilities in development projects.
