Kenyan rapper Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, has urged both the national and county governments of Kwale, alongside community-based organizations, to find a lasting solution to the region’s water scarcity.
Through his foundation, the Octopizzo Foundation, the artist visited Kwale Girls High School, where he held a meeting with the school to discuss potential partnerships on various projects. On his social media, the award-winning artist wrote:
“It was a great pleasure visiting Kwale Girls High School, where we are exploring a potential partnership focused on water access, clean energy, and hygiene programs. The water challenges in Kwale remain a significant concern and require urgent attention from both government bodies and community-based organizations to ensure sustainable solutions for the region.”
During his visit, Octopizzo also emphasized the need for the school to have clean, drilled, and un-rationed water, stating that this is essential for the well-being of both students and staff.
The school and the county have faced water shortages for an extended period. The county government has taken steps to address the situation by launching water programs in areas such as Denyenye, Kinango, Vanga, Bofu, Kizingo, and others.
Octopizzo, who has previously worked with the European Union on youth empowerment initiatives, has been at the forefront of transforming education and improving health in rural and marginalized communities through his foundation.
