Kilifi Youth Movement decries political abandonment, calls for action

The Kilifi Youths for Change Movement, a lobby group in Kilifi County, has voiced frustration over what it calls political abandonment by elected leaders after every election cycle.

In a statement released on Friday, the movement’s leadership accused politicians of exploiting young people for campaign support, only to disregard them once in office.

“For too long, we, the youth of this county, have been used as mere stepping stones in politics—rallied behind during campaigns, then discarded once elections are over,” the statement read.

The movement condemned the cycle of neglect and exploitation, emphasizing that it must come to an end.

“It is time for young people to reclaim their power and demand the respect and empowerment they rightfully deserve.”

The group announced plans for a meeting in early April to deliberate on a way forward, including strategies to break free from political manipulation.

“This is not just another meeting; it is a movement—a movement for dignity, respect, and real opportunities. If we do not take a stand now, the cycle will continue.”

The movement also urged youths to unite and demand genuine leadership that prioritizes their empowerment beyond campaign promises.

“We must come together, amplify our voices, and fight for leadership that truly invests in young people—not just empty rhetoric,” the statement concluded.
