Kilifi County Assembly’s role in Education Policy formulation

Kilifi County Assembly Speaker, Teddy Mwambire, has emphasized the County Assembly’s crucial role in shaping education policies.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum, Mwambire highlighted key areas of focus, including Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), vocational training, and funding for secondary and tertiary education.

“The County Assembly plays a vital role in implementing education policies, particularly in ECDE,” Mwambire stated.

He further stressed the need to review policies governing vocational training, noting that the transition from the 8-4-4 system to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) within the next two years necessitates adjustments.

“The funding framework currently used for bursary allocations should be revised to align with the CBC curriculum,” he added.

Mwambire also briefed stakeholders on teacher recruitment and capacity building, underscoring their significance in the successful implementation of CBC.

“I applaud all stakeholders for their efforts. The recruitment and continuous training of teachers are pivotal in ensuring the effective implementation of CBC,” he said.

The forum, titled “Strengthening Stakeholders for Effective Implementation of Competency-Based Education,” brought together various education sector stakeholders to discuss strategies for a smoother transition to CBC.
