Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro has warned quarry miners in the Jaribuni area against excluding residents from job opportunities.
Speaking when he met with the residents of Jaribuni Ward to discuss the challenges posed by the current condition of the Dzitsoni-Jaribuni road, Governor Mung’aro asked all companies doing quarry mining in the area to provide him with a list of all their staff.
He said they will have to show how many of their workers are residents of Jaribuni.
He said the companies cannot operate in the area and not employ residents.
“Today I don’t want to attack you the investors but on Thursday come with your list, I will be the minister of mining, every company working in Jaribuni must show me how many people working are from Jaribuni,” said Mung’aro.
Governor Mung’aro insisted that residents of Kilifi County have to benefit from the county’s resources.
He said he will call for a meeting with investors and local leaders on Thursday to sort out those issues.
The county president also indicated he will involve Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho.
“Today, we come together as a community, alongside investors and national government representatives, to find a lasting solution. Our goal is to ensure that our community is the primary beneficiary of the resources from our land,” Mung’aro also wrote on his social media account.
