Kwale youths accused of forfeiting their traditions

Tulinde Future Yetu Initiative (TFYI), a human rights group has begun a series of peace initiatives in the Golini area, Kwale County.

According to TFYI Chairman Salim Chidzuga, the program seeks to preach peace and adherence to traditions among the locals.

The project dubbed ‘ATSI SIMILANI’ is sponsored by We World.

Chidzuga said the initiative aims at preaching peace and unity through the enhancement of traditional rites and rituals.

“We want to use traditions as a catalyst of change. Long ago youths were taught by their old men through ‘Rome’ (a gathering called by the elderly for young people),’’ Chidzuga said.

Chidzuga however accused youths on claims of forfeiting their traditions, a move he said has led to a surge of insecurity.

“It is unfortunate youths these days have forfeited their traditions,’’ he noted.

The program seeks to educate the community on the importance of maintaining peace in the community.

“This program is quite a good one. It seeks to educate youth on the importance of maintaining and preaching peace,’’ said Mohamed Mwadzombo, a youth in the area.
