Rabai residents call for gov’t support in combating eye diseases

Residents of Rabai in Kilifi County are urging the government to conduct in-depth research on the area’s rising cases of eye-related diseases.

Masudi Munga, a resident of Mwawesa Ward, expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of these conditions and praised Jumbo Steel Mills for organizing a free eye medical camp to assist the community.

“I urge this company to collaborate closely with Mombasa Lions Club doctors to ensure such initiatives occur more frequently,” Munga stated.

Speaking during the medical camp in Rabai Sub-County, Jacket Mkando from Ruruma Ward called on the government to support grassroots-level efforts by sponsors.

“We also appeal to the government to back donors who are willing to assist the local community,” another resident added.

A local source, who requested anonymity, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for government intervention to strengthen donor efforts in fighting eye diseases.

Meanwhile, Jumbo Steel Mills Managing Director Govind Shah reaffirmed the company’s commitment to giving back to the community.

“We will ensure that residents here have access to free medical care and other essential services,” he said.

The medical camp, organized by the Lions Club of Mombasa Pwani, provided eye screenings for over 600 residents.
