Gov’t urged to allocate funds for awareness on Tech-Facilitated GBV

The government has been urged to allocate a special fund to raise awareness about technologically facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).

The appeal was made by Sharon Kechula, Project Manager at the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK), who emphasized the need for public sensitization on the impacts of TFGBV.

“The government should allocate a special kitty to educate Kenyans on the effects of technologically facilitated gender-based violence,” she said.

Kechula was speaking on the sidelines of a one-day workshop organized by AMWIK in Mombasa on Monday.

She noted that such an initiative would ensure Kenyans fully understand TFGBV and its implications.

“The initiative will help Kenyans grasp the issue of TFGBV in its entirety,” she added.

Kechula also highlighted challenges in the legal framework, stating that laws addressing TFGBV are diverse and scattered. She noted that many Kenyans struggle to comprehend legal jargon, while others have little to no knowledge of the existing laws.

“The laws are numerous, and many Kenyans do not fully understand them,” she pointed out.
