Lamu PWDs decry lack of employment opportunities

A section of people with disability in Lamu County have lamented over what they claim is a failure by both the national and county governments to offer employment opportunities to them.

This, they said has hindered them from progressive development.

“It is unfortunate that no one cares. We have been sidelined even regarding employment opportunities,” said the source.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said both the two levels of government have failed to address their concerns.

On his part, Lamu Senator Joseph Githuku urged parents with physically challenged children to bring them out instead of locking them in their homes.

The senator noted that this will ensure they get the assistance they require from the community.

“Do not lock them. These children are an asset to the community. There are so many donors and well-wishers out there,” he pointed out.

The senator was speaking in Lamu County after handing over equipment to PWDs.
