Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has stated that Darwin Nunez is running out of confidence in the dressing room, something that he feels is destroying the mentality of the Uruguayan forward on the field.
Speaking after securing one point against Aston Villa on Wednesday, a point that he was not happy with, Slot said that they had so many chances that could kill the game but they didn’t capitalize.
When he was asked about the late chance in the second half Slot said: – “There is one person in the dressing room that feels quite down. I think you know who it is,” referring to the Uruguayan.
Darwin Nunez who came from the bench had a great opportunity to score a late winner but his slow strike went above the crossbar.
The league leaders were satisfied with the point having come from behind in a 2-2 draw at Villa Park.
Mohammed Salah had put Liverpool ahead in the 29th minute before Youri Tielemans equalized for the home side in the 38th minute but Ollie Watkins’s free header during the 45+3 minute made the difference before the break.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s second-half deflected strike in the 61st minute earned Liverpool a point, extending their gap over Arsenal to eight points having played a game more than the Gunners.
Liverpool now faces a huge task in their title hopes this season with Manchester City coming up next on Sunday and Newcastle on Wednesday next week while their rivals Arsenal can close the gap to five points if they win against West Ham in the London Derby on Saturday.
