Government to install additional immigration booths at JKIA

The government will install additional immigration booths at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a gateway to Kenya and the East African region.

Speaking during the release of the Annual Tourism Sector Performance Report in Mombasa, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the government will also introduce E-gates to enhance efficiency as well as smoother customs clearance experience for visitors.

“We shall also have modernized covered walkways and baggage handling systems. To improve security, only licensed facilitators will be allowed at the airport moving forward,” said CS Miano.

According to the report, Kenya had a total of 7,568,342 tourists in 2024, 2.4 million being international tourists and 5,173,342 being domestic tourists.

JKIA accounted for 68 percent of the arrivals.

“As we grow, we must adapt. Key initiatives are already underway, including enhancements at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to improve the visitor experience and refinements to the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system based on stakeholder and visitor feedback,” said the Tourism CS.

She said the entry of Air Asia, Air Dubai, and the relaunch of Brussels Airlines was strengthening air connectivity, making Kenya even more accessible to global travelers.
