Mombasa CSO’s call for action against rising femicide cases in Likoni

Civil Society Organizations in Mombasa have raised concerns over the rate of femicide cases in Likoni constituency.

Speaking at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue, Haki Africa Rapid Response Officer Mathias Shipeta said the number of femicide cases is increasing day by day causing havoc and grief to the locals and most particularly the women in Likoni.

Shipeta stated that 3 women have so far horrifically lost their lives in Likoni area calling upon the security organs to take action on the matter.

“We are very sad about the incidences of femicide happening in Likoni, we condemn these heartless actions that occur in our communities,” he said.

Following a Saturday incident, where a woman’s body was found in a sack, Shipeta urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to speed up investigations to establish the identity of the deceased who is lying at the CGTRH morgue.

He also called on locals who have missing family members to visit the morgue in case they are among the unidentified bodies lying at the Coast General morgue.

“More than 73 unidentified bodies are lying in the Morgue, this number is very high,” he said.

On the other hand, activist Lydia Adhiambo said it was high time for the security organs in Kenya to end the femicide disaster and hold suspects accountable.
