Spanish Midfielder Nico Gonzalez has completed a £50m (sh.6,618,000,000) move to Manchester City from Porto.
The Citizens, who have been struggling since their main man Rodri suffered a knee injury early this season, entered the market for reinforcement. On deadline day, after a 5-1 mauling at the Emirates, midfielder Nico Gonzalez arrived from Porto in a £50m deal, strengthening the position that City fans have been crying out for.
Arsenal exposed and overpowered the midfield area on Sunday, and City, which is eyeing a Champions League spot next season, rushed to the market looking for an immediate solution and landed Gonzalez.
The 23-year-old who had been monitored by Man City since he was a teenager, has signed a four- and half-year contract at Etihad to solve their midfield problems while waiting for Rodri to come back.
Gonzalez’s transfer to City now makes him the fourth signing to Pep Guardiola’s side in this transfer window.
City’s spending almost outweighs that of the rest of the Premier League clubs combined, with the acquisition of Gonzalez taking their outlay to about £180m (sh.23,824,800,000).
The English Premier League defending Champions had already sanctioned £130m of spending in the January window, bringing in Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.
Marmoush, who scored 15 goals in 17 Bundesliga appearances this season for Eintracht Frankfurt, arrived at Etihad for £59m while Khusanov joined them for £33.6m from Lens and the Palmeiras defender {Vitor Reis} arrived for £29.6m.
