Mama Haki Peace Cup second edition kicks off in Likoni

Mombasa Nominated Senator Miraj Abdullahi officially launched the second edition of the Mama Haki Peace Cup under the Mama Haki Foundation on Saturday at Mwahima Stadium in Likoni.

The launch featured two exhibition matches one for each gender. In the women’s match, Diani Queens were defeated 1–0 by Likoni All Starlets, while in the men’s category, Likoni All Stars entertained Kwale-based club Denmak Maganyakulo.

A total of 84 teams will participate in this year’s tournament, with 42 teams in the men’s category and another 42 in the women’s category.

Speaking during the launch, Senator Miraj urged the youth to use the tournament as an opportunity to showcase their talents during the long holiday instead of spending time idly in maskans (hangout spots).

“Over 200 youths were reformed in the first edition. I believe these youths can change, and I will speak to them. To the police and elders do not harass these youths when you see them on the roads because I am ready to carry their cross,” Miraj stated.

She also called on President Ruto to rehabilitate Mombasa Stadium, which has remained dilapidated for years.

“It is a shame that the second-largest city in this country has no international stadium. We must have our own national stadium here, just as we see in Kisumu, Kakamega, and other parts of the country,” she added.

Miraj, who has declared her intention to vie for the Likoni Member of Parliament seat in 2027, said her priority will be ensuring the construction or rehabilitation of a stadium.

Likoni Football Association Chairman Rashid Kogo welcomed the second edition of the tournament with optimism, expressing hope that it would help produce more sporting talent.

“Likoni has always been a hub of talent, not just in players but also in coaching. We must use this tournament to show that we have something valuable here,” Rashid said.

Kitaka and Likoni Starlets, the defending champions from the first edition, will be looking to retain their titles this year.

The finals will be played in December, where the champions will receive trophies and cash prizes.
