More than 4,000 farmers from Malindi in Kilifi County have benefited from high-quality seeds provided by Agitech Seedlings, marking a significant step forward in transforming agriculture in the Coast region.
The farmers were also trained on how to use modern agricultural technology to increase their productivity and yields.
Speaking during the launch of a new Agitech Seedlings branch at Kwa Ndomo in Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule urged farmers to embrace the new technology, saying it can help boost food production for both domestic use and the market.
“Even with a small portion of your shamba, you can get a lot of produce if you follow the right procedures as advised by experts,” said the Deputy Governor.
Agitech Seedlings Chairman Julius Mwei noted that the new branch will serve as a knowledge center for farmers, offering them access to information on seed planting techniques and fertilizer use.
“We’ve been sending seeds all the way from Kirinyaga, but we decided to come closer to the farmers so they can receive direct advice from us and understand what kind of fertilizers to use,” said Mwei.
Various types of cash crop seeds, including maize and vegetables, were distributed to the farmers.
Agitech officers also plan to visit farmers across different parts of the Coast region to offer continued support and training.
