Pwani Youth Network (PYN), a Mombasa-based non-governmental organization, is calling on young people in the coastal region to take full advantage of government programs designed to empower them.
Speaking to Baraka FM, PYN Chief Executive Officer Alfred Sigo emphasized that there are numerous opportunities available for youth through various government initiatives.
“I urge young people to explore all government empowerment programs. These include initiatives such as the Nyota Program and Kazi Mtaani,” Sigo said.
He highlighted the critical role that youth play in nation-building, noting that they make up more than 60 percent of Kenya’s population.
The CEO also encouraged young people to invest in their talents and maximize their potential, adding that there is a pressing need for greater awareness around drug and substance abuse.
“The county government should actively sensitize youth on the dangers of drug abuse,” Sigo said. “Relevant authorities must be held accountable. The police and courts must ensure those involved face the full force of the law.”
Sigo further called on the private sector to partner with government agencies in developing sustainable youth empowerment strategies.
“It’s essential to promote meaningful youth participation, especially in environmental conservation programs,” he added.
