President William Ruto has condemned attacks on police officers and destruction of property that occurred during the June 25th, 2025 protests held to commemorate demonstrators killed during last year’s anti-Finance Bill protests.
Addressing regional and county security officers as well as National Government Administration officers at State House, Nairobi, the President said law enforcement must be respected and protected, especially when carrying out their constitutional duties.
“We cannot have a country where criminals run after our policemen. If a policeman’s life is in danger, then how can our families be safe?” posed President Ruto.
He described the recent violent incidents as unacceptable and warned that individuals who assaulted officers or vandalized property during the commemorative protests will face legal consequences.
“This trend must change, the criminals that attacked our officers and destroyed property in the Wednesday mayhem will be held to account,” said the head of state.
The June 25th demonstrations, held exactly one year after the deadly 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, drew crowds across the country in memory of those who lost their lives during last year’s protests.
President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s support for security personnel and emphasized their role in maintaining peace and order.
“We will stand by every man and woman in uniform, and protect them as they discharge their duties. That is how we will have a more secure and stable Kenya where meaningful development occurs,” he said.
The President’s remarks come amid continued debate over the state’s response to public protests and police accountability.
