Mombasa County holds high-level meeting with Housing Developers to streamline Urban Development

In a move to enhance cooperation and address pressing challenges in the building and construction sector, Mombasa County leadership convened a high-level consultative meeting with housing developers on Saturday.

The strategic forum brought together key county leaders including the Speaker of the County Assembly, Aharub Khatri, Chairperson of the Lands, Urban Renewal and Housing Committee Ahmed Khamis, and County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Urban Planning and Housing, Mohamed Hussein Amadoh.

The meeting focused on fostering collaboration, improving communication between stakeholders, and streamlining the development approval process in a fair and transparent manner.

Speaker Khatri underscored the need for equity in levies charged on high-rise developments, noting that such fees are instrumental in enabling the county to invest in essential urban infrastructure.

“These contributions are critical in supporting the county’s infrastructure needs, and we urge developers to take an active role in the ongoing public hearing of the Finance Bill,” he said. “The Assembly is fully committed to playing its legislative and oversight roles to promote sustainable and inclusive urban development.”

Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir also joined the engagement, reinforcing the county’s commitment to effective public-private partnerships that align with Mombasa’s long-term planning and sustainable growth goals.

Developers present at the forum welcomed the dialogue, describing it as a significant step towards building a developer-friendly environment that encourages investment while safeguarding the interests of residents.

They further emphasized the importance of consistent engagement with county leadership to address emerging issues and align development plans with Mombasa’s urban transformation agenda.

The meeting is part of ongoing stakeholder consultations aimed at creating a more coordinated and efficient urban development framework across the county.
