Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke has urged African Public Relations (PR) professionals to champion safe, responsible, and inclusive digital communication to shape the continent’s future.

Speaking in Mombasa while giving the closing remarks at the 36th Africa Public Relations Association (APRA) Conference and Golden Jubilee Celebration, PS Isaboke emphasized the pivotal role of ethical communication in navigating the digital age.

“Public relations is not merely a profession but a force for progress, connection, and truth,” stated PS Isaboke.

At the conference themed ‘Transforming Africa through Safe and Responsible Digital Communication: Celebrating 50 Years of APRA’, Isaboke challenged PR professionals to address critical questions on how to manage the rapid pace of digital information, harness tools like artificial intelligence and data analytics ethically and ensure communication remains human, empathetic and rooted in African values.

“Effective communication is the heartbeat of progress, and public relations practitioners hold a unique responsibility to wield it ethically,” he said.

He also urged PR professionals to empower these young voices to amplify Africa’s story of innovation and unity.

“Our youth are using platforms to project Africa’s resilience and potential,” he noted.

Isaboke was addressing over 700 delegates from across Africa.

“Your insights and networks forged here will strengthen our collective ability to navigate the digital landscape with integrity and inclusivity,” said the Broadcasting and Telecommunications PS.
