The Ministry of Health has flagged off a consignment of 6.2 million doses of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) and Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) vaccines.

Speaking during the flag off at Afya House in Nairobi, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the ministry had already activated its logistics network to ensure the vaccines reach all eight regional vaccine stores by the end of this week.

“I am calling upon all county governments, through the Council of Governors (CoG) and their County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) for Health, to prioritise the collection of these vaccines from regional depots and ensure timely distribution to health facilities, especially those in remote and underserved areas,” said CS Duale.

He urged the county health teams to act without delay to fully restore the routine immunization services across the country.

“Families can now visit their nearest health facilities to catch up on any missed vaccinations today. We are receiving over 3 million doses of the BCG vaccine that helps TB and 3.2 million doses of Oral Polio Vaccine,” said the Health CS.

“ This is a major boost to our National Immunization efforts,” he added.
