Brazilian Senator in Kenya for $40 billion investment talks

Brazilian Senator José Gonçalves Oliveira from the state of Pará is in Kenya to explore potential investment opportunities in the areas of health technology and agriculture. The visit, facilitated by Kenyan businessman James Wanjohi Njoroge, is part of a broader effort to deepen economic ties between Brazil and East Africa.

Pará, Brazil’s largest state by land area, exceeds the combined size of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Senator Oliveira’s visit comes amid indications that Brazil is considering investments of up to $40 billion in Kenya, signaling a potential boost in bilateral cooperation.

Senator Oliveira was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana, who also serves as the Chairman of the African Congress Delegation in South Africa.

During his stay in the region, Senator Oliveira is also expected to visit Uganda next week to explore further avenues for trade and investment collaboration.

The senator’s trip was organized following an official invitation by James Wanjohi Njoroge, a director at the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and a business leader with interests in both Kenya and Brazil. Njoroge also holds a leadership position at the East African Chamber of Commerce.

While in Kenya, Senator Oliveira is expected to meet key players in the business sector, including KNCCI President Dr. Eric Ruto. His itinerary features high-level engagements aimed at fostering partnerships in sectors aligned with Kenya’s economic development priorities.

Wanjohi expressed hope that the visit would lay the groundwork for stronger ties between Brazil and East Africa, particularly in trade and investment.
