The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Friday preferred defilement and child trafficking charges against a retired military officer.
Appearing before Shanzu Senior Resident Magistrate Robert Mbogo, Retired Major Anthony Jakaa Mganda, also known as Tonny or Major Mganda, was charged with defiling a 12-year-old girl on October 16, 2021, in Nyali Sub-county, Mombasa.

In addition to the defilement charge, Mganda faced two further counts of committing an indecent act with a child and transporting the minor in his vehicle (registration number KCN 623M) for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
Court heard that the accused used military regalia to intimidate the victim and had also made attempts to interfere with witnesses.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on a bond of Ksh500,000 with a surety of a similar amount, or alternative Ksh. 500,000 cash bail.
