273 dairy cows distributed to local farmers in Kilifi County to boost milk production

The Kilifi County Government, in partnership with the Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development (KEMFSED) Project, has distributed a total of 273 dairy cows to local farmers across the county.

Speaking during a handover event in Kisurutini, Rabai Sub-County, Deputy Governor Flora Chibule confirmed the milestone.

“To date, a total of 273 dairy cows have been distributed to farmers across Kilifi County under this program,” she said.

Chibule made the remarks after officially handing over 30 dairy cows to the Mwele-Kisurutini Community-Based Organization.

She noted that the initiative, supported by the KEMFSED Grant, aims to promote sustainable dairy farming among common interest groups and increase productivity.

“It seeks to improve the overall quality of life within the community,” Chibule added.

The Deputy Governor encouraged residents to invest more in dairy production to enhance their livelihoods and boost food security.

“The introduction of these dairy cows is expected to significantly increase milk production and support the upgrading of local breeds through crossbreeding,” she said.
