Janam Express has launched a new fleet of long-distance buses set to operate between Mombasa and the western region of Kenya.
Speaking during the launch, Janam Express Founder David Ongoro said the new buses, which will ply the Mombasa–Busia route, aim to ease the transport burden for travelers heading to western Kenya.
“It has been a long journey, and fulfilling this dream means a lot to us. Our people have long struggled with inadequate transport services, and as Janam, we’ve heard their concerns,” said Ongoro.
The buses will make stops in key towns including Likoni, Mwembe Tayari, Mtito Andei, Nairobi, Kisumu, and Busia, with Janam’s maiden trips scheduled to begin from Mombasa in the coming days.
Ongoro noted that Janam Express is expanding from its traditional role in funeral transport services to now offering public passenger services.
“We have traditionally operated in the funeral services sector, and now we’re venturing into the public service vehicle industry. Launching these buses is our way of addressing the transportation challenges our communities have faced,” he said.
To ensure safety and compliance, all drivers and staff have undergone comprehensive road safety training.
“We’ve built a strong reputation in the funeral services industry, and now we aim to replicate that success in public transport,” added Ongoro.
The fleet was unveiled at the Ryce East Africa offices in Mombasa.
According to Ian Mulwa, Ryce Coast Region Sales Manager, the buses are fitted with modern features including Wi-Fi, reclining seats, and full air conditioning.
“These buses are designed to meet both industry standards and evolving market expectations,” said Mulwa.
Co-operative Bank’s Digo Branch Manager, Mark Manyorio, also attended the launch and encouraged entrepreneurs entering the transport sector to work with banks and invest in new vehicles rather than second-hand options.
“New buses are more fuel-efficient, locally assembled to meet Kenya’s specific transport needs, and offer greater comfort and reliability,” said Manyorio.
