Fishermen in Shimanzi, within Tudor Sub-county of Mombasa County, have raised concerns over a surge in illegal fishing activities by unknown individuals in the area.
Roger Ndegwa, a local fisherman from Tudor, said the issue has been escalating daily and poses a threat to their livelihoods.
Ndegwa also claimed that some of those involved in the illegal fishing have been issued licenses, allegedly in violation of existing regulations.
“We have reported the matter, but nothing has been done,” the fishermen lamented.
He called on the relevant authorities to take swift action to resolve the challenges facing local fishers.
“We want NEMA to take full control of the canals and sewer pipes that lead to the beaches,” he added.
