Mombasa County government will be covering all ID replacement charges for those who apply to replace their lost IDs within the two-week mass registration exercise.
Speaking in Mvita sub-county during the kick-off of the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) for national ID registration, Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir encouraged those who have lost their IDs to take advantage of the exercise and replace them.

“This exercise continues in Mvita today and will roll out to other sub-counties next. The County Government is proud to cover the full cost of replacing national identity cards. Let’s come out in large numbers and make sure everyone is documented and included!” said Governor Nassir.

The governor will be visiting Ganjoni and Old Town on Thursday to oversee the exercise.
“We promised to go to all 30 wards. We are in Mvita today, then we will proceed to Jomvu and other sub-counties,” said Nassir.
Echoing the Governor’s sentiments, Tudor Location Chief Mwaka Said Babu, encouraged residents to take advantage of the exercise and ensure they get National Identity Cards.

“We are happy that this exercise has been brought to the grassroots. It is a partnership between the national and county governments,” said Chief Babu.
Documents needed to apply for ID include, birth certificate or a clinic card, school documents, and parents’ IDs or death certificates (for orphans).
According to Chief Babu, one can also carry their baptism card.
“So far, the turnout is good. We have seen many people trickling in to apply for and replace IDs,” she said.
