Mombasa lobbyists rally for clean-up campaigns, demand environmental sanity

A section of environmental lobbyists in Mombasa County is now calling on residents to organize clean-up campaigns in their neighborhoods to help restore and maintain cleanliness in both public and private spaces.

According to the lobbyists, the initiative will go a long way in promoting environmental responsibility and sustainability.

Seif Jira from Dream Achievers’ Youth Organization said the move is essential for conserving the environment for future generations.

“This effort not only beautifies our community but also reinforces the importance of collective action in protecting our natural surroundings,” Jira noted.

He emphasized that successful implementation of such initiatives requires a multi-stakeholder approach.

“We recently took part in a community clean-up in collaboration with the Chief’s office, residents of the Ziwa la Ngombe area, and organizations dedicated to environmental conservation. Together, we rolled up our sleeves and cleaned our neighborhoods, promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for all,” he said.

Jira made the remarks during a clean-up exercise held in Ziwa la Ngombe Ward, Nyali Sub-county, Mombasa.

At a separate event, Allan Otieno from Jomvu Sub-county urged young people to take the lead in environmental conservation efforts.

“It is our duty as the youth to ensure our environment is well preserved. We cannot afford to neglect it,” he stated.

Otieno also criticized the youth for what he described as a lack of proactive involvement in addressing environmental degradation.
