Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho has addressed speculation regarding the Leeds United managerial role, with current Leeds boss Daniel Farke facing an uncertain future following the club’s promotion back to the Premier League.
Earlier this year, Mourinho hinted that he would be open to managing a club outside of European competition after his time with the Turkish club concludes.
“I’m ready to take over a club in England that is at the bottom and needs a coach in two years. I don’t want to discuss it further; I want to focus on the game,” said the former Chelsea manager.
Mourinho has been linked with Leeds United as a potential replacement for Farke, with his earlier comments suggesting he could be interested in a return to the Premier League.
Despite Leeds’ confirmed promotion on Monday, Farke’s future remains uncertain. Reports indicate that the club might seek a more experienced manager to avoid relegation in the upcoming Premier League season.
Leeds’ return to the Premier League, while exciting, also means they won’t be competing in European competitions next season, a factor that aligns with Mourinho’s preferences for managing a club outside of European football.
Farke’s record in the Premier League, having previously managed Norwich City and earned promotion by winning the Championship title, only for the Canaries to be relegated straight back to the Championship, has raised concerns.
Mourinho, who has extensive Premier League experience, having won the competition with Chelsea and also managing Tottenham, would bring a wealth of experience to Leeds should he take over.
