Residents and business operators in Diani, Kwale County, have blamed the Kwale County Government and Diani Municipality for failing to collect garbage that has piled up in the town center.
Led by county business representative Willis Odeche, they said that garbage bins placed across various parts of the town have been full for over two months.
Odeche expressed concern that the situation poses a serious health risk, especially with the onset of the rainy season.
“Business owners pay taxes, and both the national and county governments should provide us with quality services,” he said.
Meanwhile, Diani Municipal Manager Khamis Mwandoro acknowledged the issue, stating that the municipality currently has only one vehicle to transport the garbage bins—and it has broken down.
“The garbage collection system is in place, and the skips fill up daily. We are currently repairing the skip loader, and normal operations will resume soon,” Mwandoro said.
