Former Kisauni Member of Parliament Ali Menza Mbogo has assured residents of Mombasa County that he will go all the way to the ballot as a gubernatorial candidate.
Mbogo has said the mistakes he made in the 2022 general election will not happen again.
He said the handshake between then president Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga led to the formation of Azimio la Umoja coalition.
This he said meant that the coalition picked one candidate for the gubernatorial post in Mombasa and other affiliate parties could not field candidates.
Mbogo insists he will not make the same mistake again saying come 2027, his name will be on the ballot paper vying to be the third governor of Mombasa County.
“If you stick your hand in a hole and get bit by a snake, you cannot stick your hand in the same hole again,” said Mbogo.
On his frequent criticism of the county government of Mombasa, Mbogo said every Kenyan is guaranteed freedom of speech in the constitution.
Mbogo who served for one term as Kisauni MP before vying for governorship says leaders vying for various posts need to be able to criticize when things are not going right.
“We will give credit where its due and we will criticize if the county is not being run well,” added Mbogo.
Meanwhile, Mbogo also called for the unity of leaders from the Coast region.
“Leaders from different regions including Western and Mt. Kenya are speaking in one voice, at the coast, we have ministers in government, we have speaker of the Senate, we have six governors, when will they call leaders from this region and speak as one?” asked Mbogo.
He said this is a big challenge at the Coast which if not solved will always have the region receiving bread crumbs.
Mbogo said with that kind of disunity, leaders from the Coast cannot sit at the round table and demand for anything tangible.
