The Mombasa County Football Association (MFA) has awarded winners of the Veterans League, which features players aged over 40, with medals, trophies, and jerseys.
The gesture was aimed at recognizing and appreciating their exemplary performance.
MFA Chairman Juma Goshi Ali said the league, sponsored by Fuad Rashid and Company, was primarily organized to promote fitness and foster unity among football legends.
Awards were presented to individual winners, the best overall team, recipients of the fair play award, the most disciplined team, and the veteran player of the tournament (above 40 years).
Goshi emphasized that the county football association is recognized under the Sports Act.
Responding to concerns from stakeholders, the chairman asserted that his office would not stand by as attempts are made to disrupt the unity of the football community by a few individuals.
“We know there are attempts to sabotage the Mombasa Veterans League, but we will not sit back and watch. We will fight back,” he stated.
He added that the league, which began in 2014, would not be derailed by any underhand tactics.
“As the Mombasa County Football Association, we are legally in office and recognized under the Sports Act. We will not be intimidated.”
Kisauni Veterans, who emerged as the overall winners, received a trophy, three balls, jerseys, and medals, while 63-year-old Athman Bugus was named Veteran Player of the Year.
Digi Plus Company is the main sponsor of the league, which brings together 18 teams from across Mombasa County.
