President William Ruto has confirmed that the construction of Nairobi’s Talanta Sports City is on track and will be completed by December 2025.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the site on Friday, the President expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, noting that over 3,300 workers are currently engaged—2,000 during the day and 1,300 at night—at the 60,000-seater stadium.

“With this momentum, the Talanta Sports City will be ready by December 2025,” said President Ruto.

The modern facility will include a main football stadium, an athletics track, and rugby training grounds. It is expected to play a key role in preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya is set to co-host.

President Ruto said the project is part of the government’s broader effort to expand infrastructure while creating jobs, citing over 250,000 opportunities created so far through various developments, including housing and economic zones.

He emphasized that the timely completion of the stadium will not only provide world-class training grounds but also elevate Kenya’s standing in regional and international sports.

“I’m happy with the progress here and confident we’ll meet the December deadline,” he added.
