
The County government of Mombasa has suspended the ongoing construction of 20 buildings as the probe into the construction and supervision of the unsafe building that was brought down by the Kenya Defense Forces continues.
Speaking at the demolition site of the 11-storey building in the Corner ya Kilifi area, Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir said two county workers who were involved in the
“One has been suspended and the other one sent on compulsory leave as we await the report of the multi-agency taskforce. Those found culpable will have to face jail time,” said Governor Nassir.
Meanwhile, the county, through the Lands Department, is continuing with efforts to clear the demolition site.
The exercise will only be carried out by the county government to allow for the collection of evidence.
“With every floor cleared, we are collecting samples that will be tested so that when the time comes, we will have enough evidence for legal action,” said the County head.
