The Kenya Muslims National Advisory Council (KEMNAC) has given the Mombasa Sports Club (MSC) management committee a one-week ultimatum to reinstate Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki back into the club.

Speaking in Mombasa, the Council, led by their Chairman, Sheikh Juma Ngao, condemned the expulsion of Senator Faki from the club three weeks ago.

Ngao said the failure to reinstate Faki and the three other members who were expelled from the club will see the council taking legal action against MSC.

“It is very disappointing what happened to Senator Faki at the club. Faki is a leader that was elected by more than 100,000 people, so he should be respected,” said Sheikh Juma Ngao.

According to the Council, the land where the MSC sits on is Waqf property that was donated to the community by Ali bin Salim. He said if the senator and other members are not reinstated, then they will go to court to demand the land back.

He blamed former MSC chair Michael Songoro for frustrating members on religious grounds.

“When Ali bin Salim gave out the land, he specified that if problems arise then the land should be given back to the muslim community. So we will go to court and demand our land back. They can take their club and leave us our land,” said Ngao.

The Council complained that Faki and the three other members expelled from the club were the only members representing muslims in the MSC committee, saying that their expulsion meant zero representation of muslims in a club located in a predominantly Muslim city.

“Michael Songoro, Weloba and the Committee Members organised an Annual General Meeting at 7 pm in the holy month of Ramadhan, this is the time when muslims break fast and go for prayers. The other time, they organized an AGM on a Saturday, and the Sabbath members of the club went to court, and it was postponed; no one was kicked out of the club then,” said Ngao.

The Council now wants the club to stop planning AGMs during religious events or holidays.

Ngao’s sentiments were echoed by Abubakar Amin Baalawy, who condemned the move to expel Faki along with three others (Athman Mohamed Abdulrahim, Hassan Swaleh Hemed, and Khamis Takdir Khamis).

“7 pm during the holy month of Ramadhan is a sacred time for muslims to break fast. Even President William Ruto calls muslims for Iftar in the evening, not morning. If the president respects the holy month, why shouldn’t the club? asked Hafidh Muhsin, KEMNAC Director of education.

The senator, along with three other members, was expelled from the club during MSC’s Annual General Meeting on March 25, 2025.

According to the club’s management, the four individuals engaged in behavior detrimental to the club’s interests and repeatedly violated Club Rule 56 by filing multiple lawsuits over the past three years, allegedly disrupting club operations.
