The helicopter crash that claimed the life of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla and nine other military officers was caused by an engine malfunction, according to an official report presented to President William Ruto on Friday.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya handed over the investigation report to the President at State House, Nairobi. The findings were based on a detailed analysis of the crash site, technical assessments, and evidence collected by the Kenya Air Force.
The report concluded that the fatal crash resulted from a mechanical failure in the aircraft’s engine system.
“Consequently, the Kenya Air Force has reviewed and updated its Standard Operating Procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future,” the report noted.

In response to the findings, the military has taken steps to strengthen aviation safety protocols, with a particular focus on aircraft maintenance, pilot training, and emergency preparedness.
The report also emphasized the importance of routine technical audits and real-time monitoring of aircraft performance to detect faults early and enhance operational safety.
Present at the briefing were newly appointed CDF General Charles Kahariri, Vice CDF Lieutenant General John Omenda, and Kenya Air Force Commander Major General Fatuma Ahmed.
The crash, which occurred in April, claimed the lives of General Ogolla and nine other personnel, including senior officers and members of his support team.
