Arrest criminal minors with their parents, says Matuga MP

Matuga Member of Parliament Kassim Tandaza now wants security apparatus to arrest parents together with children accused of engaging in criminal activities.

Tandaza said parents play a critical role in their childrens’ upbringing.

“When a youth is arrested he or she must be arrested with his parent, because in law there is something called an accomplice,” he said.

He further noted that the move will ensure that parents remain responsible in their mandates.

The MP accused parents on claims of failing to play their parental obligations.

“Most of the youths implicated in engaging in crime are still too young. When that step is taken parents will become responsible,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Kwale Women Representative Fatuma Masito, however, is of a contrary opinion.

She said arresting the parents will even complicate the matter.

“It unfair for parents too to be arrested. Let the parents come to the station,” said Masito.
