The Kilifi County Public Service Board and County Secretary’s office have announced an immediate comprehensive staff rationalization process.

Acting County secretary Catherine Kenga has said the current establishment requires realignment to better serve the evolving needs of residents.

Speaking to the press, Kenga said the exercise will be professional, fair, and guided by the Governor’s vision of efficient, people-driven service delivery.

“Each officer will be reviewed and placed in roles that match their qualification, experience and demonstrated capabilities. Let me be clear. Everyone will be treated with dignity and respect,” said Kenga.

Kenga added that clear feedback and a grievance redress mechanism will be instituted to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process.

However, she acknowledged there have been delays in the payment of staff allowances.

“The welfare of our public servants is paramount. We cannot demand productivity and loyalty from a workforce that is uncertain about its well-being,” added Kenga.

Kenga said the county government is fully aware of this concern and that Governor Gideon Mung’aro, in consultation with the CECM for Finance, has directed her to ensure all verified claims are scheduled, scrutinized, and paid in a structural manner, in full compliance with the Public Finance Management Act.

She said Governor Mung’aro has directed that the payment of those pending allowances take effect immediately, noting that funds are already available for the same.

Showing commitment to her role, kenga said her office will maintain an open-door policy and remain accessible to all staff and the general public.

She welcomed every staff member to freely share their concerns and suggestions to improve the working environment and service delivery.

“As an initial show of commitment, we are reviving the use of suggestion boxes and guarantee anonymity with a 24-hour response,” said Kenga.
