Tana River residents urged to heed flood warnings to avert tragedy

Residents of Tana River County have been urged to follow the instructions provided by the Meteorological Department to prevent tragedies caused by flooding during the rainy season.

According to Abubakar Roba, the Tana River Red Cross Coordinator, the county is one of those that experiences disasters every rainy season.

He stated that the department had issued a warning about potential floods in the area and emphasized the importance of residents taking precautions.

“Let us heed these advisories, as it is our responsibility as residents to take the necessary precautions,” he said.

In the past, Tana River residents have been severely impacted by floods, resulting in displacement, property destruction, and, in some cases, the loss of human and livestock lives.

Many of these residents are often forced to live in tents, as their original homes are flooded every rainy season.

However, the Tana River County government has been taking measures to build permanent houses for flood victims in the area.
