More ‘panga’ boys to be arraigned on Monday

16 suspected members of machete wielding gangs in Kwale County are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.

This is according to Msambweni Sub County Police Commander Robinson Langat.

At least 120 suspects of the notorious gangs known as ‘panga boys’ were arrested following a week-long operation in Kwale County.

Langat said that the operation will continue to target and dismantle the gangs.

He added that some of them have already been arraigned and charged.

“63 suspects have been taken to court, while police have requested 14 more days to hold 33 others under a miscellaneous application for further investigations, said Langat.

This follows an incident where suspected members of ‘panga boys attacked and robbed residents in Diani in broad daylight.

In an amateur video doing rounds online, a group of young men wielding machetes are seen terrorizing and robbing from shops in the area.
