Residents of Shabaha and Shamba la Bibi villages in Taita Taveta County have raised concerns over the poor road network in the area.

Ghibran Shaghasha, a resident, lamented that the region has long been neglected in terms of development, particularly in road infrastructure.

He emphasized that a well-maintained road network is essential for economic growth and urged local leaders to prioritize investment in better roads.

“We are facing serious challenges due to the poor road network. Additionally, no related developments, such as electricity installation, have taken place,” Shaghasha stated.

Teresila Mwashigadi, another resident, highlighted the impact of the poor roads on schoolchildren, who are forced to walk through unsafe bushy paths to reach school.

“The situation is dangerous. Some children have been attacked by snakes. We need an urgent solution,” she said.

In response, the County Executive Member for Roads and Infrastructure, Martin Tairo Maseghe, reassured residents that the county government is committed to addressing the issue.

“We will deploy graders to start constructing these roads,” Tairo assured.

He also urged residents to actively participate in the county’s budget-making process to ensure infrastructure projects receive priority funding.
